Old Kentucky 15 year Special Reserve - 1990
The history of the Old Kentucky Distillery traces back to around 1880, when it commenced its operations. Initially, it operated under the name Mayflower Distillery Co until 1895, after which it adopted the name Old Kentucky Distillery. Located in Paducah, Kentucky, a region renowned for its whiskey production, the distillery contributed to the area's rich whiskey heritage. However, its operations came to a halt in 1919 due to the United States alcohol prohibition, a nationwide constitutional ban on the production, importation, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages that lasted from 1920 to 1933. The prohibition era was a tumultuous time for many distilleries, and like many others, Old Kentucky Distillery was forced to cease its operations. This marked an end to its contribution to the whiskey industry, and much of its history and the details of its specific whiskey releases have become less accessible over time. Nonetheless, the distillery's existence is part of the larger narrative of Kentucky's longstanding tradition of whiskey making, which continues to thrive to this day with Kentucky being a revered hub for whiskey enthusiasts and producers alike.
