Mars Komagatake 1988 26 Year Old Single Cask #557

An older vintage release from the Mars Shinshu distillery in Nagano prefecture. Distilled in 1988 this cask was matured for 26 years in an American white oak cask and bottled in 2014 at 58% Abv. The Mars Shinshu distillery started in 1985 after acquiring the stills from the closed Yamanashi distillery. The site was closed in 1992 amid the Japanese economic crash and only began producing again in 2011. Pre-closure vintages from Mars are particularly sought after with a number of releases from this era winning considerable awards in competitions.
