Seven ways to pay on BAXUS

There are now seven ways to pay for a bottle on BAXUS. The two newest, PayPal and Venmo, were among the most requested things on our list.

You can settle a bottle with whatever is already set up on your phone. For a marketplace built on rare whiskey that's a bigger deal than it sounds, and adding these two was the single thing people asked us for most at checkout.

The seven, and what each is good for

Your options at checkout

BAXUS Balance. Money already sitting in your BAXUS account, usually from a sale. No processing fee at all, so it is the cheapest way to buy. If you've sold a bottle recently, look here first.

Credit card. The ordinary one. Enter the card or let your browser fill it in, and the order goes through like any other online purchase.

Crypto. Pay from your wallet balance through Helio. Checkout waives the processing fee on crypto too, and shows you the saving on the button before you pick it.

Google Pay. One tap on Android and in Chrome, using whichever card Google already holds for you.

Apple Pay. The same on iPhone, iPad and Safari, with Face ID or your fingerprint doing the confirming.

PayPal. New this month. Log in with your PayPal account and pay from your balance, or from any funding source attached to it.

Venmo. Also new, and the one people find most surprising. If you use Venmo, your account is already a payment method here.

How it came together

Card rails, crypto rails and PayPal all settle differently, and none of them were built to share a checkout. Bringing the seven onto one page, with one total and one confirmation, was the biggest piece of plumbing we've done this year.

The result is that the bottle you keep going back to look at is a couple of taps away, on whichever method you already use.

What each option costs you

Two of the seven carry no processing fee at all. Paying from your BAXUS balance takes nothing on the way through, because it is your money and it is already here. Paying with crypto waives the same fee, and checkout shows you the exact saving on the button before you choose it.

On a $21.58 order that is a real difference, and the number sits right there next to the option rather than appearing after you commit.

Card, Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal and Venmo all carry the standard processing fee and behave exactly as they normally do for you.

Using a promo code alongside it

Codes work with any of the seven. Enter one at checkout and the discount comes off the total before the payment method is charged.

One thing to know about codes

A code applies to a straight purchase rather than to an offer you place on a bottle. If you make an offer and it's accepted, the sale settles at the offered price and the code has nothing to attach to. To use a code, buy at the asking price.

What stays the same

The part of BAXUS behind the payment is as solid as it ever was. Every bottle is authenticated and inspected before it lists. The market price sits next to the asking price so you can see exactly what a bottle is worth at the moment you commit to it. Storage in the BAXUS Vault stays free for as long as you want it, and when you decide to sell, the bottle goes back to the marketplace straight from the vault.

Whatever you pay with, the bottle lands in the same vault with your name on it.
